One of my favorite guitarists, what a glorious row!

One of my favourites MO. I was hooked as soon as I heard their first session on John Peel's show.

A good place to start is the earliest stuff (look up The Wait and Requiem) as nobody was doing what they did at the time and plenty have since. If you like them you are in for a good ride.
The last gig I saw was put out as live album called Laugh at your Peril. It is a glorious racket.

Thanks for the heads up. I genuinely know nothing about this band apart from the name. Will seek them out.

Oh, and RIP Geordie, natch.

Re: Geordie (Killing Joke) RIP
Was shocked when I heard this on Sunday, last saw them earlier this year in the warm up gigs for RAH at Colchester and Wolves.
Impossible to continue as a band without him as Geordie wrote 95% of the songs.
Lost count of the times I've seen them and still can't believe it.
Was lucky enough to be backstage and after parties on a good few occasions as well as a couple of evenings out in Prague with him and he was a very nice chap, loved his fishing and had a very sharp wit, didn't suffer fools and if he didn't like you you would know it.
Saddest thing is he has left a young daughter who will hopefully remember that last tour as she had to come on it with him, but at 6 years old may not remember in years to come.
Fondest memory was him and Youth joining in with a chorus of Bubbles at the after show fiollowing a Lucerna gig a few years back as the missus had worn her shirt.
RIP big man, have a catch up with Raven....

Re: Geordie (Killing Joke) RIP
He produced a massive guitar sound with almost no apparent effort.
I love KJ and am sad that is the end of the band as he and Jaz are irreplacable (Aplogies to Big Paul and Youth).
Also last saw them in 2019 and they were as pummellingly brutal live as they ever were.
RIP Geordie

Killing Joke are one of the most underrated bands, along with The Chameleons and Talk Talk.

Re: Geordie (Killing Joke) RIP
Such an influence on SO many people. One day (probably when they, like me, are ALL dead) we'll start to appreciate where they stand in the British Rock Pantheon.

As a drummer Paul Ferguson (Killing Joke) and Rat Scabies (The Damned) were my biggest influences. Moon too, but that goes without saying really.

My last memory of Geordie was of him sipping a beer as the emergency services gave Jazz (the singer) gas and water after him keeling over at the super fucking hot Subterranea club in Ladbroke Grove.

He leaned into the mic and said 'I've been playing with this cunt for over forty years and this has never happened before. Are you trying to fucking kill him?'

If you've never heard them, do yourselves a favour and listen to Follow The Leaders or European Super State, the first songs I ever head with real drums playing over an electric beat.

They literally changed my life.

Re: Geordie (Killing Joke) RIP
My brother phoned me in 2017 telling me that our dad had called him saying that he'd come down the stairs and mum was dead on the sofa. Being an old boy he said he wasn't sure.

I quickly got my kit on and rushed to Kentish Town west, taking the train to Stratford and luckily had my headphones with me

I've never listened to What's This For? with such intensity and at such high volume and I think it may have stopped me losing my mind.

Rest in peace Geordie.

Re: Geordie (Killing Joke) RIP
Oh shit. I loved Killing Joke back in the early eighties. Geordie was a true original on the guitar. Saw them in 2019 and he was still going strong. RIP.
